Vauxhall's MX5 Rival

In a previous news article, we wrote about Mazda's rival manufacturers and there ideas to build a car to take the MX5 Mk4 on.

Fiat in the UK won't be launching the 124 Spyder until the end of the year. Which is great for Mazda because they've got this years peak buying season to themselves. There aren't really any alternatives in the sub £30,000 sports car range here in the UK, unless you buy a used car.

Fifty years ago, Vauxhall created a VXR concept at the Geneva Motor Show. It was a Covette like but it never made production.

Now they've created the GT Concept. The offical word is it's just to pay homage to that car.

However, Vauxhall are describing the GT Concept as a "template for future sports cars".

Some of you may remember Vauxhall's VX220... It shared the same aluminium platform as the highly successful Lotus Elise. And if you've driven the Elise and VX220, as we have, you'd buy the VX220...

Vauxhall's mistake with that car is obvious - it's a Vauxhall! If Vauxhall release a car like this under their own brand, we are sure it will sell but it's still a Vauxhall.

BUT it's NOT a convertible!

Should Mazda be concerned? We don't thing so!
